AN ARO St intersection described as “dangerous” by residents has seen a power pole snapped in half after it was hit by a truck.

Sergeant Simon Paterson told NewsWire the truck had passed a car turning right on to Ohiro Rd, but the curvature of the road had made it lean over and hit the power pole.

Police and fire crews cordoned the truck and diverted traffic up Ohiro Rd while technicians worked to switch the power off and repair the damage.

“This corner was an accident waiting to happen,” said Bolton Tce resident Judy Buchanan.

Ms Buchanan had complained to the Wellington City Council about the corner and asked that it be made safer for cars and pedestrians, but had received little response.

“They just keep fobbing us off – they’re very willing to talk but they don’t do anything.”

Aro Valley resident Brent Efford was delivering newsletters when he heard a “big bang and saw the wires bouncing up and down.

“What it needs is a roundabout like you’ve got [in] a lot of other places, and a pedestrian refuge,” said Mr Efford.

The truck driver was checked out by an ambulance, but was not injured.
